I have a Release 6.0 CS1000 with 2 IBM 3350 cots servers. One of them seems to have a bad hard drive. It has two drives in it and the book says it is RAID-1. The drive had an amber light on it before I re-seated it. Now no lights at all on that drive.

I have been looking for the procedure to rebuild it in the books. Anyone have any experience with this??

I have connected to the box via telnet (Putty) and directly to the serial port on the back of the box.

I had to reboot the box via the power button when I got over here because I couldn't putty or connect to it via element manager

Break the raid and reboot the server.

ie pull the faulty raid drive and reboot with the good drive, if the server reboots ok then replace the faulty drive.

cheers,

killian

Killian Thanks for your replay.

When I replace the drive how do I get the system to rebuild the new one? I have not removed it and rebooted. Is there any partitioning that has to be done?

if you have raid, the 2 drives will be have the same data, so pull the faulty drive, reboot the server, see can you connect to the ECM/EM or Putty

cheers

With RAID-1, swap out the faulty drive ASAP with a replacement (you did think to order an identical spare drive when you ordered the server, right?), and it should start the rebuild process (mirroring the good drive to the replacement drive) automatically.

As long as the drives are hot-swap, it's literally plug and play.
