The unit is a 7.0 CICS and I'm using a Bell South basic answering machine on IATA (x117). 101, 102, and 103, forward to 117 on the fourth unanswered ring. This all works correctly. x117 is set to IATA, with 'telephone' as the device, and 3 as the delay.

If they answer the phone on or after the third ring then when they finish and release the phone call, the answering machine will 'pick up' for about 4 seconds and they'll hear a dial tone on the answering machine, then it hangs up. Is there anyway to get rid of that? If they pick it up before the third ring then the answering machine will not do this.

You answered your own question. If you have the delay set at 3 and the fwd no answer set to 3 guess whats going to happen, Set the delay on the IATA to 4 and that will solve the problem. If they let it ring 4 times the same problem will occur.

I was under the impression the 'Delay' setting inside the ATA programming was designed for a delay on the hangup timer and was disregarded if your dev type was 'telephone'. Is that not the case?

The site is a few blocks away so I will go try to modify the setting to 4 or 10 and see if that affects it, thank you.

I tried modifing it to 'ringback', 3, 4, and 10. It still happens regardless of the setting. I even removed every line assignment, line pool, and intercom line from extension 117 and it still does it.

To clarify, if they answer between the third and fourth rings then the light for x117 will light up. After they hang up the answering machine will play a dial tone over it's speaker for 5 seconds and then hang up and the 117 light will go out. Before the third ring it doesn't do this, after the fourth ring it's already transfered to 117 and the call no longer rings or appears on the phones.

So you have your Line Prime to 117 or what ever extension the Answering machine is on, then under the setting of ext : (Answering machine ext.) you have FWD no Answer set to 4? and this is still happening? thats how I would set it up. and It should work no problem.

Currently the prime line on all extensions is 'line 1', except teh answering machine which is 'none'. Are you saying the 7316e exensions or the answering machine extension should be set to 117 as prime?

After I set 117 (the answering machine) to FWD no answer to 4 what do I tell it to forward to?

No No No... Set the ALL of the extensions (7316's) FWD no Ans to 117 or what ever extension the IATA is and the delay 4. Set all of your Lines to Prime to Ext 117 or what ever the IATA ext is. Then when your phones ring 4 times if nobody answers a phone it will goto the Answering machine after 4 rings.

That seemed to have no affect. The incoming calls are flawlessly forwarding to the answering machine on the fourth ring, that isn't the problem.

The problem is if they answer an incoming call between the third and fourth ring the system seems to still forward it to 117 because 117 pick up, sees nothing, plays a dialtone over the speaker, then hangs up.

On the answering machine itself, try setting the answer delay switch to 2, or whatever the first setting is above zero. See if this resolves the issue. It sounds like the machine is lagging a little behind the ring from the KSU.

The lowest setting the machine can be set to is 2 rings, it still does this

I give up heh.. Buy a callpilot :) or run a direct line to line 1 and plug your machine into Line 1 direct set it to 4 and it will answer line 1 after 4 rings.

Maybe the machine is faulty? Like Rik said maybe there is a delay..
