These are two completely different platforms and it really depends what your expectations are out of each. The IA 770 is built in to the S8300. If you upgrade to a different platform due to growth such as the S8500 then you would need to upgrade to a IALX or Modular Messaging anyway.
The IA770 is similar to the old definity audix. You can use message manager with it but don't expect to configure Internet Messaging.
Both platforms will network with the Network Messaging platform and will do TCP/IP Networking.
Integration for the IA770 is H323 trunking which may present it's own unique challenges. Integration for the IALX is via analog lines. This means you also end up paying for additional hardware and RTU on the PBX side. The IA770 is probably the more "cost effective" if less "functional" of the two.

My IA770 gives me lot's of trouble and goes down a lot, about every 2 months for no reason. LX I find is much more stable, the only trouble with it is sometimes it illuminates the message waiting light and the message is dead air, not sure what causes this but rebooting has seemed to fix it for now.
Have had some issues w/our IA770s (not once a month though) but have had some downtime. Found out when we installed an S8300 LSP w/Enterprise software that we could not install an IA770 there...had to install the LX (for what it's worth). The only thing I do not like about the LX (and it's lame) is using ASA to access Audix takes you right to the command prompt...you bypass the menu. You have to go into the browser for all of that.
