Hi,

Got a wierd problem. IP phones 2007 and 1140 setup with full DHCP and Auto Prov on Unistim 4.0

When I do an isetResetAll from the sigserver, the 1140 phones reboot correctly. However the 2007 sets fail at the DHCP stage. They cannot understand the DHCP string sent by the DHCP server. Only way to restore the phone is to physically power it off (by unplugging the LAN cable) and plug it back.

If there was anything wrong with the DHCP string, it wont work after the physical reboot as well. However problem is only seen after a command based reboot.

Sample DHCP String in use==>
Nortel-i2004-B,prov=10.2.1.9;file=t.

Other DHCP Options enabled ==>
Router - set to the Default gateway IP
Boot Server Host set to the TFTP server IP address

I have checked the DHCP server logs and i do not see any error messages. Only Renew/Assign/Release message in there.

Any help would be useful.

Rgds

What DHCP string do you have on your DHCP server for the i2007 phones?? I don't think they can use the i2004/1140 string. I am also not sure what the i2007 string should be. It appears in your post that you only have the i2004 string. At least this would be the first thing I would look at since the i2007 is failing at DHCP boot - its because DHCP tells it what to do because the phone is just a stupid phone - no brains :)

The DHCP string for all wired Nortel IP phones can only be the i2004 string.

There are only 2 variations of it,
Nortel-i2004-A and Nortel-i2004-B depending on phone firmware and features required.

Also if the DHCP string is wrong, how do the phones accept it when physically rebooted? As mentioned earlier, problem is only seen when phone is rebooted with isetReset comamnd from sig server.

Sorry I don't have any i2007 to test with :( Yeah it must be that they use the i2004 string - maybe it doesn't like your file = t statement?? Or something on your provision server?
Or just to be crazy try the Nortel-2004-A string? Think A is for Phase 1 sets --- can't really recall right now.
Nortel-i2004-A,10.1.1.10:4100

Good luck fixing it :) But yeah, I would strip the sring down to bare minimum and see if the i2007 will finally boot then you will figure out the culprit. At least you would hope it would boot properly on a minimum string :D
If not, I suppose you need to get with Nortel.
