I am having a problem with IP phones on a sucession 1000. I have had users complain about not getting a dialtone when they first pick up the receiver. The majority of our sets are Nortel I2002 sets. When the user picks up the receiver, they will not get a dialtone or be able to answer the call until they press the dn key. The sets are programmed with the extension on key 0. Any idea what is causing this to occur. In most cases, just re-starting the set clears the problem. In one case, I had to remove the set from software and re-build the set to get it to clear the problem.

Thanks,

Key 0 is pref by default. Could you put IRA OLA in CLS and item: LPK 0

May or may not help, as 0 is line default preference.

Bigindian65,
All my sets both IP and digital are programmed pretty much the same. I have not had a problem before with either the digital or IP sets. Just began on a few IP sets. I am thinking some kind of a signalling or data problem.I have not actually failing now. Just looking for some possible causes.

Thanks

okay. When I had weird problems like that years ago, it wound up being "sticky" switch hooks. I would have to take them apart and put more tension on the little paper clip like piece that allows the craddle hoo switch to go up and down by removing the handset. Might want to push on a few of those and see if they get stuck, or are worn out.

Just caught the - happening on IP sets, you are probably right. Good luck.

There is a Product Bulliten out from Nortel about bad hook switches on I2002 sets. Factory fault.

Faulty hook switch was on initial production of IP Phone 1120E - no IP Phone 2002.

What software level on the CS1000...firmware on phones. Is there ever a problem with the phone in answering incoming calls?

When a user is experiencing a problem, it is on both incoming and outgoing. If a call comes in, they pick up the receiver and cannot answer the call, they must press the dn key. We are on 4.0, firmware C104d89. Not a lot of users yet,but enough to make me think something is going on.

Thanks

Meant to say, not a lot of users experiencing a problem. But enough to make me think a problem in my IP. We have about a 130 actual IP users at this time.

Probably not going to solve the problem but noticed in passing that you stated d89 firmware. That version is ancient (as far as firmware goes) with DAS being the latest version for 4.0.

I am going to bet firmware is the issue here. I also had this same problem about a year ago at a site. I loaded the new firmware and it took care of it. I also believe it was the d89 firmware that was causing the problem and it was only on i2002's but not the 2004's.

Many thanks to everyone for the input. Unkalaty,do you know where I can get a copy of the Nortel bulletin? Edkender, I think you are right. I will upgrade the firmware and let you all know the results. This site is great for a rusty old dog. Everyone is always full of great things to try. Really appreciate the help from everyone.

What bulletin are you looking for? I would just download the latest firmware and upload it to the sig server and vgmc cards. The upgrade your phones.

Edkender,
I intend to update the firmware but Unkalary responded about a Bulletin mentioning bad switchhooks on I2002 sets. I just want to cover all bases. I'd like to see if the bulletin mentions the firmware or just the sets.

POOPUS - repeat my earlier post. The bulletin was regarding switchhook issues with the 1120E. There is no bulletin on switchhooks issues with the 2002.

CS1000 hearing Problem with IP phones

I am having a smillar problem with a site that has a CS1000s with four gateway connected by fibre. The customer is complaining that they have to put the call on hold before they can hear when someone calls on the T1.I have upgrade the firmware on all the cards, phones and load the latest patch on the Call server. Also when ever a call is transfer for the operator console the recieving party is not hearing anything.I need some help ASAP!!!

Create a new thread with your problem details & you will probably get a quicker response.

I upgraded my firmware to the DAS last week. It seems to have cleared my problem with the I2002 sets. Thanks to everyone for their input.
