I would like to protect my excel data not to copy by others but allow them to read only.(I know how to protect sheet). thanks

With your Excel fiel open - click on FILE-SAVE AS and then there is a button called OPTIONS.

Clicking on that gives you the option to set a password for opening the file or editing the file.

Is this what you need?

Thanks Hasit,

I know how to protect our excel file and worksheet already,
now I would like to allow other people to open and view my file but do not allow them to make another duplicate copy. it's just to protect our effort. as we know, once they can read our file, they can using copy and paste function to make another copy as a new workbook. So how we protect our excel file from duplication?

OK I think I know what you want.

I assume you don’t want the people you are sending the sheet too to be able to see or copy the formulas.

Select the cells that you wish to protect and click Format, cells and click the Protection tab.

The protect option should be checked and then check the box for Hidden and click OK. Protect the sheet as normal and click on any cell that has a formula in. You will see that the edit bar is blank. If you copy the cell and paste into a new sheet the value will be pasted and not the formula.

Along with the options discussed earlier you should now be able to do what you want
