[ol][li]Make sure RD connections are enabled. Right click on My Computer, Properties, Remote tab. Make sure that 'Allow users to remotely connect...' is checked. Make sure that your user account is set & has a good password[/li][li]Allow RD connections through firewalls. The built in XP firewall should be OK, it should automatically get allowed as an exception when RD is enabled. Also be sure to set allowances for any 3rd party firewall software. You'll need to allow TCP port 3389 connections from the internet using the appropriate configuration tool[/li][li]Forward TCP port 3389 through your router. If you use a router or other hardware NAT/Firewall device, you need to forward TCP connections on port 3389 to the internal IP address of your computer. You can find this by opening a command prompt then typing ipconfig. In your router setup, this might be called 'port forwarding', 'virtual server' or something similar. Post your router info if you have trouble; ignore this step if not applicable[/li][li]Find your public IP address. This is your public address on the internet. Try Most are assigned dynamically by your ISP. Record this address and hope it doesn't change while you head off to work.[/li][li]Go to work & connect. As long as it's OK with your employer, use the Remote Desktop client on your work computer and connect to the public IP address recorded earlier. Use your username & password as mentioned in step 1.[/li][/ol]

thanks for your help. that was the best explanation i have seen so far. as soo as i get to work will see if all is ok. thaks again

ok. so i have done evberything you havent tried it form work. but my brother tried and it alows me to ping it but not connect thou cmd. so there is still a problem. have you any ideas?

The most likely reasons for it not to work are firewalls & NAT routers. Make sure that everything on the host side is set to pass port 3389 to the internal IP address of the RD host.

You may want to check with your ISP that you can do this. My ISP provides a broadband firewall that allows only HTTP and SMTP traffic. You have to manually log in to the ISP portal to fine tune the firewall settings.

ok. i have managed to connect to my desktop from work when it is pluged in by ethenic. but not by wireless router. wen it is connected by wireless router it gives it a different ip. can some one tell me how to make this work,
