I want SQL :(

I just spent an hour and a half tryn' to figure out how to use or in select expert. Whatever happened to good ole, plain, logicial SQL?

Now I can't figure out how to select the left character in a field. I know this is a dumb question, but can anybody tell me?

Just go to the formula editor and type it in

If you are using a summary you need to use the Group Selection formula rather than the record selection formula.

I'd create formula {@keytotal} of
{Object.Key1}+{Object.A6}

Then in Group Selection use
Count({@KeyTotal}) >1
(or whatever your condition is)

If you are using cr v.9 or greater you can use good ol' SQL in a SQL command, syntax dependant on your datasource type; but you don't mention your version.

I'm using version 8.0....

I just have a hard time understanding how anybody finds the Crystal filtering commands simpler than SQL....

I did figure out you can view the SQL Crystal is sending out to the SQL Server. It just doesn't make sense why they didn't use SQL Syntax....

I agree, and I guess they did too, but only in version 9+.
The original intent of the product probably leaned more towards folks who didn't know sql and just wanted to grab some tables and toss some fields onto a report and one can still do that, thankfully. It allows non-dba types to get a leg up and learn sql when they absolutely finally have to, like me.
(I am very happy to have both options now that I know what to do with them.)

I have the same question, I think I will SQL my MySQL first and then Crystal Report the resulting table as my query got complicated.

Wished there was a way to edit the SQL directly

I am Probably missing something here [I have CR10.0]

You can type direct SQL if you go to the Database Expert and then double-click where it says "Add Command". You can also edit it afterwards.
