I have tried everything. I have a computer on my network. It can log into the network, get an address from the DHCP server, it can access the file server and every other shared network resource, BUT I CAN"T SEEM TO PING THIS COMPUTER. (which means that I can't hit this machine to do a Remote Desktop connection.)

I have:
Turn off the Windows firewall.
Turned on the windows firewall with exceptions.
Changed NIC cards.
Statically assigned the IP address of the machine.
Changed LAN cable.
Changed LAN port on the network.
Looked in Local Security Policy.
Changed the setting for IE explorer

And from the computer I can:
Ping every other computer on the network
Ping the Gateway
Ping the DNS server

This is the only computer on my network (15 nodes, all running XP Pro with 2 Windows 2003 servers) that I can't ping or map too.

I am at a complete Loss. Anybody have any Ideas?????

Have you tried reinstalling the TCP/IP protocol?

Have you tried pinging 127.0.0.0 instead of localhost or vice versa

Have you checked that when you set up the servers you used a proper subnet mask? I assume the XP machines are DHCP and the servers static. Let me know if this helps.

what happens if you move this unit to another location?

It is a firewall issue of some sort.
Look to see if you have installed any software for VPN or other network services.
CISCO, for examaple, will deny the ICMP traffic. As will several Antivirus softwares.

if you can,
turn off all the computers and unplug the routers, switches, and or hubs for 10 minutes.
sometimes this works.

Thanks, that did it. I unistalled the TCP/IP protocol and re-installed it. now I am not having any problems.

Your welcome
