Hi
Yesterday I repaired the internet and e-mail settings in Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 and now I have Internet access but don't see the server from clients! I don’t see the server in the entire network !
Let me explain.
I have 5 clients using windows XP professional, and the server that I talking about uses 2 network adapters: the "server local connection" is used for broadband that comes from a modem/router from Verizon, (here is attached the cable that comes from the modem/router); the other second adapter (a network card attached) "local connection" card is used for network (to see the hard drives in the server). That is the setup that the last tech guy left, (even though at the beginning yesterday I though it was different order: second for Interner and first one for network, and when I setup like that yesterday, I didn’t have internet but had access to the server from clients, so that’s why I assumed the first one is for Internet because I noticed that first network adapter that comes in the mainboard has the cable that comes from the modem/router).
Well, the fact that everything was ok these days, but two days ago a new modem/router wired/wireless versalink 7500 from Verizon arrived here and I tried to connect it yesterday. In fact, two nights ago I tried to connect that new modem/router but since when I connected it I didn’t have internet access even when I repaired the internet and e-mail settings in Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, I put the previous modem/router back, a Westell 327W. When I put it back, didn’t have any problems.
I had to go to that repair the internet and e-mail settings because the last tech guy told me that every time I change the router I had to go to those steps in order that the server update the connection with internet, otherwise I would not have internet access.
But at this time I think I went further and now I have internet and don't have the network, I mean I can't see the server in the entire network, nor acces to its hard drives!
At the beginning yesterday I didn't have internet either (no internet not access to network). But now I have internet at least after I corrected the order of the network cards since previously I had set up wrongly, as explained above. Now I have internet but I don't see the server from clients. I went to the entire network and I don't see the server!
I tried to delete an user (I have 5 clients) and reinstalled it again, just in case with the reparing settings event I would need to do it, but nothing. Insted of that when I tried to connect that deleted user, typing 'server/connectcomputer/" in explorer I see a message that I have to install a deployement Component in server. But I didn't uninstall anything.
One thing: In that repairing internet and email settings, I had choose ‘leave the firewall settings as previous’. I don't know if that could be the reason of something that is blocking to see the server from clients.
What I have to setup again. Please help me.
