I recieved the following message in the view history of the Job:
Cannot allow BACKUP LOG because file 'XXXX' has been subjected to nonlogged updates and cannot be rolled forward. Perform a full database, or differential database, backup. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 4213) Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed.

I re-ran the job and it suceeded. What may have casued the "nonlogged updates" problem?

Hi There

There is an option in the database properties "Select Into/BulkCopy". If this is checked you can perform non-logged operations.

Has someone ran a non-logged BCP (or similar) or SELECT INTO operation. Does someone turn this option on, do the operation and then turn it off ?

You cannot back up a transaction log after a non-logged operation you must first do a full or differential backup. You could add a differential backup to a new step in the "Backup Transaction Log" job so that a differential backup will run if backing up the transaction log fails.

Hope This Helps
Bernadette
