I have a client who installed BE 10.1 with CPS for SBS 2003 on their SBS server (their ONLY server).
When they tried to schedule a job from the CPS console, they get an error:

"There must be at least 2 available servers to create a backup job."

I have only worked with 8.5 in the past, and this is completely different. I don't even see where you can add a server, unless you push an install, but to where? This is the only server in the place!

So, please tell me what I am missing, so I can schedule a backup job and these kind folks can get on with their lives.

Thanks!

Corie

CPS is a data protection product only not a server protection product. It Replicates user data. So you need another server to replicate data to. You would want to replicate data on to the same server that wouldnt provide any protection. You should be using Backup Exec 10 for SBS to backup the server and not CPS

I have BE 10 for SBS, and use it for simple volume backups every night. This version came with CPS.
Are you saying I can't use the CPS part of the program?

Thanks!

its no use unless you have another 2003 server to replicate the data to.

Dang. I wonder what that Symantec salesman was smoking.

Thanks, even though it was not the answer I wanted!

Im trying to think if its really worth updating to 10 from 9.1.

is it a whole new install or simply an upgrade?

Upgrade, and if you only have one server, or don't want to use CPS, then no, it's not worth it, IMO.

For my clients, the salesman was very gung ho on the CPS part of the upgrade. Too bad he didn't know how it actually works!!

Save the money. Not that I'm bitter. :)

If you decide to use CPS read up on VSS. CPS relies on it and if there is a problem with it, Tech Support won't help you much.

Continuous Protection Server.

No worries! :) DOH! runs in my family.

im only 2 1/2 months into BE. I went out and bought the book

which helped me out in the beginning. but now i find myself looking for more active forums, which seems to be hard to find. im taking suggestions btw. :)

all considered, i have been able to teach myself and re set up everything so that im not working with what someone else set up that didnt know the system. Now I back up a mail server, a FS, and 4 other servers to disk, then back up the disk with tape
:)
