Ok, I have to do some documentations on Share Point Portal server 2003; only problem is I need to find out about how much the server can handle.

Specs:
Dual p3 1.2ghz
1gb of ram
300gb HD. (Fiber Drives)

Running it off a SQL server.

We have around 100 users that will be going to be roaming the site, and many small documents will be being uploaded and such.

I have been reading the manuals, and documentations Microsoft has made but it seems to me the power we have is to low, if someone can please give me some insight that would be excellent.

Also, I wanted to make sure about something that was bothering me..... When i goto my shareportal site... <--- like so, it connects without asking for user name domain and pass, why is that, can someone please tell me how i could disable this function so I would not have to worry about unauthorized roaming...etc. etc.

I will have more questions to come, for now someone please help me with what i am looking for.

Thank you,
Enven.

Enven,

1. Double the RAM (at least). SQL would hog 1GB like nobody's business.

2. You can control access to SharePoint sites through SPS Central Admin. It's under Site Settings -> General Settings -> Manage Users. If you have the necessary admin permissions, you can add users and groups from AD, and manage their access level through Site Groups. Read the new and improved compiled Help for more info.

Thank you for the information...on the same note as question 2....I am trying to find out how to let the public users See the front page of the sharepoint Portal page...without having to login...I went to site settings gen settings then manage users, when i went there I looked over the data base..we have 3 users up for testing at the moment since we have not uploaded anymore, we are using a bogus account to try to access the sharepoint server...it wont let us access the front page..is there any way we can set it up so people can actually access the front page and roam the sites, but not the sub sites, personals etc.????

if so please please please! give me the steps or help me find a documentation that isnt 100+ pages i have to roam through..im guessing someone has tried this problem before and they could be much help!
thank you!

Check the permissions in IIS for the portal site. IUSR_machinename and/or ASPNET_CLIENT should have permissions to the resource.

thank you so much...believe it or not...after I thought about those questions, I litterally went to the IIS manager on the server, and found that information...

I thank you so much for the information! The funny thing is, i did not expect to be working on a Sharepoint Portal..and they threw it at me! So i have been playing with it for a total of 3-4 days...and a total of 5 hours :x
So i thank you for the help.

Sincerly,

Join the club. I investigated SPS back in the 2001 days, but we never implemented it. Now we're all gung-ho about 2003. At least I don't have migration issues ;^)

My new boss worked at Fisher-Price Toys, whose internal collaboration app was the model for SharePoint.

Have fun, and see if you can take the implementation class once it's RTT (released to Training).

meh i hope i get this off my back by tomorrow lol.

I need to know though, when data is stored is it stored into the IIS terminal? Or is it stored right off the main sharepoint server...do you happen to know what i mean?

Enven.

The data is stored in SQL Server.

rgr that,

To bad i did not support the server being to be set up. But they went live with it, i cant believe it....we have a underpowered server, and they are going live with it...

Meh, not in my hands anymore, but if i post anything else, it will possibly be on data transferring, if i ever need help with that , which i doubt

Phil, thank you for all the help, I will not forget!
