I've set up the document and have master pages, but I would like 10 un-numbered pages (preface, etc) before starting the 11th page of the document as page 1. It's quite a weighty document so it'd be annoying to do it all manually! Anyone know the answer?!! Thanks.
Thanks jimoblak - The only thing is, that method seems to do the opposite to what I want. I selected "11" but it made the whole document start at page 11, rather than for the 11th page to start as number 1.
The only other option I think is to save the first ten pages as a separate document, although that will mess up any links.
Cheers for your response anyway, any further ideas appreciated.
As far as I know, what you have suggested is probably the best way to go. That is, set up two files - one for the first ten pages (and you can choose to number them in a different way if you want e.g. lower case roman numerals are common) - and another for the rest of your document. One further step you can take is to convert both completed docs to PDF and then use Acrobat to combine them into a single PDF, which will have the page numbering correctly done. Perhaps your links (between the first 10 pages and the rest) can be set up within the PDF?
If you want page "1" to begin on the 11th page, create 2 docs with the first 10 pages in one, the the second doc will have your page "1". Use the utilities to create a "book" which will link all separate docs for indexing and table of contents purposes. PM does not allow one to begin page "1" anywhere but on the first physical page of the doc, unfortunately. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
booklets is the way to go but I had problems with hyperlinks and booklets so gave-up.
If you are really keen try scripting - and set-up your own page scheme by subtracting 10 from the actual page number and changing text.
Get the scripting help pdfs - one seems to have vanished from the Adobe site and the other I found via the PAGEMAKR (sic) site
Booklet is different from the Book command. Book command will link several different documents (chapters) into one book. This helps to keep file size small for the separate chapters for a large publication.
Booklet is the page imposition utility that will allow a document's pages to be re-arranged for the printing process so that you can print a book (example, printing four 8.5"x211" onto a single 11"x17" paper, front and back, so thatthe pages can be folded and stapled in proper numeric sequence.) When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
HI,
I think the command under utilities shud work fine to join 2 PM files after breaking them apart. This way your links & styles are preserved & your page #ing will also not get affected
