I need opinion

Hello,

I just bought Dell 2450 (2x733 Xeon) with 512Mb and 4x18Gb discs (I will try to add aditional 512Mb).

Currently I have one server and it works like web and database server (Win2K Server & MS SQL Server), but because I have in average 150-200 visitors at same time on site, we need to split database and web server (before budget was problem).


What do you think can this Dell handle between 200-400 visitors in same time (server will be only web server) ?

Are there some known issues with Win2K SP3 because I have a lot of problems to configure server. When I install Windows it works ok, but when I start to apply updates IIS start to make problems (it doesn't want to show pages or it doesn't work, etc...) ?

It seems a reasonable spec, only time will tell though if it gives the performance you wish. What Internet bandwidth do you have? I would have thought that would be the bottleneck for 400 suers before the web front-end was.

We have SP3 on our IIS servers and it's stable, some of the more recent IIS patches have been lockdowns reducing the default functionality so if something broke you might jsut find you need to revisit the configuration of it.

Hi Nick,

bandwidth is not a problem because it can go to 100MBs and now is around 1Mbs.

With my Dell I am totally confused because site is organised in master folder and subfolder (site is default site on IIS). If I access for example

http://localhost

it will open default.asp page without any problems, but if I try to access

http://localhost/german

it will not open anything. When I copy default.asp from root folder to subfolder, page doesn't want to run and it run before. Code is same like on other development computer and on current web server. One big enigma, did you maybe have some similar problems or heard about them ?

I will try to find on MS site what can be a problem and then to remove that update.
