I have been everywhere trying to find help with my new DSL. Im not very technical in this subject.

My issue: I play an online game called Microsoft's Ashersons Call. Heard of it? Im sure you have if you play games. I can't seem to get connected to the game. Well let me tell you what I got.

My router is a SpeedStream 5660 Router. It uses NAT.

Now I need these ports opened...
OUT UDP 9000, 9004, 9008, 9012
IN UDP 9000, 9001, 9004, 9005, 9012, 9013

I have worked with my ISP ALLTEL DSL. They fussed and complained working with me. They didn't want to walk me through opening the ports with me. I finnaly got it out of them.

Now with this NAT. Im supposed the use UDP and I have to have an IP address along with it. My ISP said to use. 10.0.0.2.

Well all them ports are opened. I still can't get connected. I emailed MS support team. And they give me some BS like this.

Hello Bryan,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Product Support.

I am Aji from Microsoft Consumer Games Support. I will be assisting you with Zone.com.

I understand that the game cannot be played online as, at the update, the game does not respond and gives an error stating 'Cannot connect to server'. You have DSL service from ALTELL using a SpeedStream 5660 Router. You have opened all the required ports for the game. You also want to know the IP
address that you are supposed to use.

Well Bryan, I will provide some more Microsoft Knowledge Base articles here which will provide more information on the other ports that may be blocked on the network which may be causing the issue. We will also try the auto detection of port setting to troubleshoot the issue.

Regarding the IP address to be used, there isn't a last number as such. There is an entire range of numbers depending on what server is being connected to at a particular point. Simply opening 1 IP number would not work as the AC servers occupy nearly half the entire range. The idea is that, if nee
ded, ports can be opened for a given IP range. To open a range you have to contact the manufacturer of the network hardware.

To Autodetect the ports in the game
--------------------------------------------

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Games, point to Asheron's Call, and then click Asheron's Call.

2. Click Settings.

3. For "Port number to use", select "Derived from your IP address" or "Automatically detect my port for me", depending on whether you have Asheron's Call 1.0 or Dark Majesty installed.

4. Click OK, and then click Exit.

Check the game now. If the steps do not resolve the issue, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles for the complete list of ports to be opened:

Please do inform me of the status of the issue after trying the steps above.

I have did what they said. Still cant connect to the game. Is there something I am doing wrong. I have not got a clue. If someone reads this thanks so much for your time. B/c I have tried everything and now im clueless.

Laura,

I don't know which ports you have opened and how it is configured.

I found this. It is a list of ports for NAPT.
Does it help?
Asheron's Call [support page] [mapping info]
OUT UDP 9000, 9004, 9008, 9012
IN UDP 9000, 9001, 9004, 9005, 9012, 9013
NOTE! You may also need to open the MSN Game Zone and DX ports

Here's the link.

Hi Laura, I fixed my problem. You are going to have to set up a VPN. Ask the Alltel people to show you the link..lemme see if I got it still...ahh yes here it is..
This will fix your problem. I am now in AC and playing fine. But the ONLY problem is you will not be able to connect multiple computer. Hope this helps you out. Later. = )

Oh yeah it was like Pulling a arm and leg off the Alltel people to help with this. So im sure they were giving you the run around on how to fix it. But I finaly found someone that would tell me how. But it works. = )

the Speedstream 5660 doesnt have a DMZ option. I've been searching for a way to truly open just 2 ports with this router to no avail yet. Even with all the entries in the router to open the ports (including TCP, UDP and GRE) yet still cannot get out (TRACERT stops at the router). I Wish they had put the ability to DMZ a machine in this router... It can really Pi** a gamer off.... heh...

Thanks all. Yes, Old Man, I opened those ports to no avail. And, DJBeenie, I have to have multiple computers on, otherwise, the investment in DSL isn't warranted. The Alltel rep gave me the same link you suggest, and I set up the VPN according to the instructions. No good. It won't connect. IThinkILove you, Alltel told me it WAS PPOE. FYI, they are changing from ATI to Ethernet, already in progress. It will cost time and $$ to convert--you have to pay for and download a file. Go figure!
On some other advice, I broke down and bought a Cisco 678 router on eBay, and am awaiting its arrival. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks to all of you again for your input and support. What a great site, and a great bunch of people!

Hi,

I stumbled upon this discussion, while searching for a solution to get AC to work through my firewall.

Mine is a Sonicwall SOHO2. I had a subnet of static IPs, but didn't want to shell out the extra cost anymore.

So, now, with NAT, everything works - even running a DNS and mail server - except for Asheron's Call.

I have opened all the ports as described in those KB articles mentioned here. I've even opened the entire range of Turbine IP addresses, as they were listed in another article.

But, it won't work. I look at the logs and actually see that a system with from within the AC server network is trying to connect within the range I opened. But, the packet gets dropped! It's as if the router was ignoring my ruleset (which I have verified and re-verified until my vision went haywire).

With my ISP none of the suggestions here would work: VPN is a seperate $$$ option on my Sonicwall and the ISP doesn't use PPoE or such (it's Sprint wireless broadband).

Does anyone here have a Sonicwall and successfully uses NAT and AC?

Thanks!
Mike

Ive got a D-Link DSL-504 Router, which has DMZ, but even after enabling it on 192.168.0.2 (my AC computer) it still wont let me connect, ive double checked using PortDetective, all the ports are confirmed open. ActivePorts shows the entire range of ports being used once AC starts (theres alot of them) but they almost instantly turn to "TIME_WAIT" states, and i lose connection to server.

I have confirmed these ports are connecting to the AC servers as the remote IP matches that from the zone help article, this is getting really frustrating :(

I told you guys having a proper router is very important, i haven't try it yet, but i am sure the cisco 827 router will work for games

i for one spent tone of time trying to configure a Ugate, Linksys, D-Link, Netopia, they will not work properly even open the DMZ

Direct IP is what you need, first go find out if your ip is in fact a external ip, where some isp gives you their internal ip

I am hoping someone can help me on this. I have a westell wirespeed. I have been have not been able to connect to AC. I have opened all ports and still I cannot enter game. My isp has been trying to help but they are lost. Anyone familiar with the Westell?

herzog,

I\What variety is your Wirespeed? Is it the DSL modem, the Dual Connect Bridge or the Router?

If it is the modem, there is no firewall or NAT and you should not need to do anything unless your ISP is blocking ports.

If it is the router, we will need more information on how you have opened ports, who your ISP is, other softwareyou are running such as firewalls and other steps you have tried.

Herz,

I also have a Wirespeed by Westell, and I am having the same problem. Mine is connected through the USB port, but I also have an option to go through a network adapter. I believe that we have a DSL modem, not a router. I did install ZoneAlarm, but have turned it off when trying to connect to Asheron's Call. I get the the character selection screen, but no further than that. I use Bellsouth FastAccess as my ISP.

Looking for help,
Nuek

Nuektos

I am still having the same problem. I am also with Bellsouth and have the wirespeed router. Please let me know if you find a solution to this problem. It is going on 3 weeks now and I have all but given up on this. I have tried numerous things and cannot figure out what the problem is. I have opened all ports but still nothing. I have tried to play many other games and have had no problems

Trie to debug the connection and see wats is the problem with that games ... wat is hapening with the paket ! Is not a port problem ! The port problems is web u are the hot not the client of the games !! Wen are u the HOST of the games un need to make a FORWARD for ports ... but is u are a client an trie to connect to another server see wat is hapinening with your paket¶

In case this situation has not been resolved, I can fix it precisely for this modem, and for most other DSL modems (PPPoE). I had alot of trouble for a while with it, too. If help is needed, let me know.

LinuxPenguin, I need help still. Have a 5200 Speedstream DSL modem using NIC (Realtek 8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet). NIC settings are factory (Link Speed/Duplex Mode: auto, Network Address: not present, Receive Buffer Size: 64K). No luck hosting Monopoly 3, can join games though. When I try hosting other computers cannot connect to mine. Opened all necessary ports, tried creating custom IP Filters, and tried DMZ. Hope this info helps. Please help, been researching this problem for faaaar too long :( Thanks.
