We have Exchange 5.5 and a lot of laptops that have internet access. They all have Outlook loaded but I could not find a way to connect them so I hooked them all up to web mail. (blah)

This works ok, bit I'm having problems sending attachments. Some machines handle them ok, by that I mean if I send a Word file as a attachment, the browser "turns into" MS Word and displays it. Some of them show the document, and some just show a blank page. All have the same version if IE 5.50.4134.0600

I am at wits end with this.
I wanted to connect the real Outlook up but I can't find any documentation how to start except with RAS, and MGMT wants me to use the internet.

HELP!!!

Thanks ahead of time

Your best bet for traveling users without setting up a VPN is Outlook Web Access.

Here's a good place to start:
Planning and Deploying Outlook Web Access (OWA)

This will enable a web browser to show a webpage that looks just like outlook. This is also useful if you give the laptops to different people when they go on the road. Instead of reconfiguring Outlook each time, just give them the address, e.g. Mantislee

I really don't understand your problem. Are these users on your LAN or are they working from remote locations? Do they have email accounts on your Exchange server?
With this info I might be able to help you.

Kuria,
They are all part of my domain. They are not connected by wire to my lan.
They are salesprople that travel, and they want their email by laptop.
I configured them to Exchange web mail, and they can get their mail, but not attachments. They never have to knock if your door is always open.

Thank you mantislee, for the document. They never have to knock if your door is always open.

It required me to install Office SR-1 patch. I can't do it on all of the laptops, so I purchased Quick View Plus from
I think this'l do the job until I get hold of an Outlook guru to make the "real" Outlook work on the laptops.

Just out of curiosity you wanted to connect the "real outlook" to you laptops? If you had outlook on the laptops did you create offline folders use? This creates an .ost file on the laptop and configures itself to syncronize with your exchange system through an ISP. It's recommended to logon to the network at boot up regardless of offline connections. I have setup all our counselors to do this while traveling throughout the country but depending on the connections speed large attachments can take some time to download. Let me know if you need specifics.
thanks mezaim
