I just got windows XP pro for my two computers. They both used to have Windows Me, but I reformated them before installing XP. After installing XP, everything was working fine until I tried installing the Nvidia drivers. While only unpacking the file I got an error message saying,

The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy and file, verify its integrity, and try again.

It did this for both computer after downloading the drivers about 4 times. It did the same thing while I tried to unpack AIM. Then when I try to install the newest MSN I get an error,

Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted Cabinet file.

I then tried Windows 2000 pro on both computers and recieved the same error messages, now i've once again loaded XP back on, and I have no idea what to do. I need these computers running as soon as possiable, please help, i'll be at the computer waiting for a reply.

Try using Winzip on the donwloaded files to see if it complains. The files may well be corrupted.

Those files don't use winzip, they are .exe, also i've tried many different Nvidia video card drivers from different sources, all get the same error.

Did you try to run them with Winzip as bcastner suggested? What was the error message?

Andy.

You can't run them with winzip, they are .exe, it can't be done, all you can do is zip them up, but you can't unpack them using zip.

Since this is a hardware forum please let us know what hardware you are trying to do this on. Thanks.

The computers that are having this problem are an A7n8x and A7n8x-x, 1800+ and 2000+ athlon, 512ddr ram, Ge-force 2 mx440.

You can run them with Winzip. Open Winzip, Open - change 'files of type' to Archives, encoded and .exe.... then point it to your drivers .exe. You are likely to be able to 'run with' or 'unzip to'.

Andy.

Alright, I extracted it using winzip, but I get this problem.

Extracting file: C:\Documents and Settings\Kyle\Desktop\61.77_win2kxp_english.exe
Extracting to "C:\Documents and Settings\Kyle\Desktop\drivers\"
Use Path: yes Overlay Files: no
Extracting /Advanced.tv_
Extracting /aliagp.sy_
Extracting /CAD.tv_
Extracting /data1.cab
CAB file 61.77_win2kxp_english.exe is corrupt

So you need to - download a fresh copy from nVidia or replace your modem and try again?

Is your antivirus or firewall affecting your download?

Can you try to dl from Europe or Austalis instead?

Turn off your download manager?

What is the link you are downloading from? Matbe someone could check it's ok (I can't - stuck on 28.8 'til tomorrow evening.).

Andy.

I've downloaded the Nvidia drivers from nvidia.com, i've tried the main downloader and the mirrors. I'm not running any firewalls or virus protection, i've tried ealier versions of the driver and some programs i've downloaded are working.

The problem must lie with your PC then. Do you have logging enabled on your modem?

Run two online virus checks.

Andy.

I have run numerous virus scans, and there is no problem with the internet (DSL). Remember, this is happening with two computers not just one.

As you noticed, Winzip can unzip the .exe files, and it shows some of the files are corrupted in the download. This is exactly what I wanted you to find out.

This could be an MTU issue. DSL traditionally uses an MTU of 1492, and likely your XP client is set for 1500. Test for the required MTU and set it using the utilities found on this site:

One issue of incomplete and corrupted downloads from IE I have seen recently is from users of PC-Illan. The active monitoring program can lead to corrupted or incomplete downloads.

Recommend downloading the drivers from ATI and using NTFS for your file system.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

ceh4702 - I'd say that's a pretty last ditch solution in order to get his Geforce 2 working...
