First thing to do- get the tutorials down (under the help menu)- they'll teach you the basics pretty well. I started out in the same situation. I saw Flash sites and wanted to learn how to make them myself. I suggest doing what worked for me.

I bought the book: Flash 4! Creative Web Animation, by Derek Franklin. I learned the basics over a weekend.
Judland
judlandwaste@netscape.net
<a href=
I know the feeling well, as I was overwhelmed when I first viewed the screen. So, I went to the bookstore and found an excellent book, 'Essential Flash 4 for Web Professionals' by Lynn Kyle ISBN 0-13-014327-8 $30.

This book builds two Flash 4 web sites on a step-by-step basis with many diagrams. You have to do this 2 or 3 times before the programming sets in. You can figure out what's going on in most of the sample movies.

At least after you read this, you will have a great understanding of the basics and be able to build some decent movies.
