Hi, recently I have noticed my computer has been running very slow and the CPU Usage is constantly at 80-90%. Norton picked up the Backweb-8876480.exe and I told it to stop running. I ran HiJackThis and here are my finding. My OS is WINXP Home

So if someone can tell me what to remove I would be extremmely thankful. Also I am currently running Nortons Anti-Virus 2002 To see if it picks it up again.

Well I removed the virus, no need for help.

Subject,
How did you end up removing it? My brother is having the same problems!

Melissa

actually i believe i still have it. My comp ran faster once i ran SpyBot, Ad-Aware and Nortons Anti-Virus 2002. Nortons picked up that Backweb.exe file and disabled it. In task manager I ended the Backweb.exe and then used Spybot and Ad-aware to remove all Spyware. After that i searched my HDs for the Backweb.exe and deleted em all. Thats what i thought fixed the problem, I might have some registry keys but im not sure since my computer still runs slow and my Mouse lags. When I open Task Manager it starts off at 100% CPU Usage and drops after a few seconds. Also I am an Online Gamer, and I can tell i'm lagging, My Frames Per Second drop and I begin to lag. Still tryin to work on the problem gonna pick up nortons anti-virus 2004 and see if that helps or says I have anything.

FWIW, Backweb is not a virus. It is an application to download updates and such in the background. It had a lot of potential at one time, but now it's not used much by other than Compaq. Do you have a Compaq computer?

No I have a dell, and it was causing serious problems. It was causing massive CPU Usage and very slow load time.

I still suspect that it's an intentional application; not a virus. It has als been known to cause problems (another reason that it lost favor).

By removing it something that should update automatically, probably won't work, but it won't be a big deal. I am curious how you came to the conclusion that this is a virus. I can't find any antivirus sites that even mention it. The only reference to backweb on the norton site is about a virus that shuts down backweb.

Possibly caused by some heuristic analysis of exe files
in NAV (found some suspicious code)

Nortons picked up backweb-8876480.exe as a "Malicious Script", so I disabled it and realized my computer was still running slow, and then checked the log file of nortons to see what the name was and i searched on google saying it was a medium to high threat. and removed it. I also ran a free anti-virus scan and it picked up another Trojan. Which I used Trojan Remover to kill.

If the filename was backweb-8876480.exe instead
of backweb.exe i suspect its a virus with name camoflache.
So NAV may have done the right thing.

Yet my computer still runs like poop. Can some one check my HiJackThis log and tell me if its clean?

Look at 'devldr32.exe'. You seem to have a soundblaster sound card. Get the updated drivers from the creative site. This is a known issue (google for 'devldr32.exe' and you will see ;-) ). I had the exact same problem and was cured by the newer creative software for my Soundblaster Live! 5.1.
