I have Got Cisco 2511 router and Lanart ETT1101 10 BASE T ethernet transreceiver

I plug Ethernet cable or not plug, but not show AUI Led on cisco 2511 router

But startup blinking (a once)

and line protocol is down on ethernet0 on cisco router

What is the matter?

Hi,

What exactly is the state of your interface?

post the show interface ethernet0 (all of it)

Also,

where is the cable plugging into? a Switch / Hub what are the duplex settings ont that device?

Hi

Cable is plug to switch and

abc#sh int eth0

Ethernet0 is administratively down, line protocol is down
Hardware is Lance, address is 0060.5cf3.ffab (bia 0060.5cf3.ffab)
Internet address is 195.64.137.65/27
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000 Kbit, DLY 1000 usec, rely 255/255, load 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set, keepalive set (10 sec)
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
Last input never, output 00:01:17, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Queueing strategy: fifo
Output queue 0/40, 0 drops; input queue 0/75, 0 drops
5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer
Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants
0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort
0 input packets with dribble condition detected
3 packets output, 418 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 2 interface resets
0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred
0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

I may be out of sync with thread but why is Interface administratively down? It will never pass traffic until user goes into interface, and types "no shutdown"

It means you have not turn on the interface.
Router# config t
Router<config> int s0
Router<config-inf>no shut

To eliminate any confusion, the Ethernet0 needs activation :

abc#conf t
abc(config)#int e0
abc(config-int)#no shut
abc(config-int)#CTRL^Z

Enjoy.

Because the Ethernet 0 interface is administratively down, you have to go into config mode for the interface and give it a "no shutdown". This will enable the interface.

Simon

thanks a lot.

my router config is

interface Ethernet0
ip address 195.64.137.65 255.255.255.224
shutdown

why to use shutdown? Because while shutdown is not running eth0.
