Getting error: the image urlmon.dll is possibly corrupt. the header checksum does not match the computer checksum. What can I do? Thanks.

Do an F8 boot and login doing Safe Mode with Command Prompt and run a chkdsk /p then reboot once it's done.

If that doesn't work try downloading a copy of the DLL file from here and copy that to your c:\windows\system32 directory.

That should fix it. The bigger question will be answered once it has been replaced and rebooted, you get to find out if other DLL files are corrupt.

Cheers
Rob

Thanks for responding Rob. I was able to get to command prompt but I cannot get into safe mode. That did not work. Last known config did not work. Recover option off XP CD did nothing. Anything else, other than reinstalling OS?

You can get to those directories (System32) by using a live Linux CD like Puppy or Knoppix to replace that file, but like AG said there may be many more bad dlls. If you have a current XP CD, you can run sfc/ scannow with the CD in the tray, and pull in the original versions of the files.

Another solution would be to google 'BartPE' and create a live XP CD with plug-ins for Spybot and Nero.

NliteOS allows you to slipstream SP2, SATA drivers, and other goodies into your XP CD.

The final option would be the second repair option, an In-Place Install of XP. Bypass the Recovery Console and proceed as if you were loading Windows, there will be an option on the next page for "repair an existing installation".

This will not delete your files and all your apps will still be there, but you will be in for a long night of Windows Update after the fact. Remember to add your SATA drivers at F6 just as if you were clean-installing. Best of luck.

Tony, the in-place install worked like a charm....only took a few minutes; no other dlls were corrupt. I was so happy. If I had known about that I would have done it a long time ago anyway. Thanks again.

To borrow a line from another Tony, GGRRRRRREAT!!!

Don't forget to Windows Update ad nauseam; even the newest XP CDs are not up-to-date.
