I have an old aloha 5.2 set up and i just bought an IBM 4840-521 to replace an older register. My problem is the cash drawer set up. I put it in as an opos printer, I went into the ibm pos software and thought I named cashdrawer 1 ibmdrw1 but it keep rebooting saying the opos ibmdrw1 doesn't exist.

1. What logs can I look at to get a better understanding of my problem
2. How do I set up the cash drawer that is plugged into port 3A

As an opos cash drawer, it would plug into the pc. You need to double check the opos settings on the IBM to make sure you have spelled the opos name correctly. They are case sensitive.

I am back from vacation.
I have gone into the device configuration and I have five com ports. All of them are 9600,8,1,xon/xoff
I have the drawer plugged into port 3a on the register.
When I went into the program IBM ole pos customization I choose rs-232 and surepos 500 family.
Based on what I read, I should be using com 5 for this port?
Well when I customize the port on either cashdrawer 1 or 2, I change it to xon/xoff and name the drawer. When I test it, it fails.
When I put the new name into the hardware configuration for the cash drawer under maintenance as opos cash drawer and it fails and it loops. What am I doing wrong?

This may be a dumb question and I am not familiar with IBM stuff but under your printer setup do you have a terminal selected to run the opos printer? Typically from what I use our opos naming schemes in the printer hardware settings follow something like:
TM-U220BE
TM-U220BE_2
TM-U220BE_3

I believe that just pertains to the particular printer model though not sure.
