Hi,

I have an access database and am using crystal reports as my reporting tool. I need to be able to access the database, to create a report, but I don't want it to be dependant on the database being in the same place.

What I mean is What/how would I be able to go from, user wanting some data in a report, to printing out report, but possibley not having the database in the the same place all the time. If i want to move the database to somewhere else, how would the reports access the data?

Sorry it is hard to explain

Thanks

Hi jdubbs
Maybe I'm over simplifying it, but could you put the location string in an ini file that way if you wanted to change the location you can just go and change it there?

Well I thought of that, but our group is making a program that we would technically be selling to someone. So we wouldn't want to be changing our code for every person we are selling to.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hey,

Can anyone give me any ideas? I am stuck here!

Thanks

do u have a front end ...or r u just using crystal report to generate reports...
In the former case...u dont have to worry cause u'll be writing this code
krarpt.ReportFileName = App.Path + "\call summary.rpt"
krarpt.DataFiles(0) = "calldb.mdb"
krarpt.PrintReport

and while u package it u have to put both the database and the report in the same place where u have the exe placed
OR
if u want it dynamically then put the path in a txt file and ask for the path during first setup and add the .datafiles(0) statement with the path from the txt file...

Can someone explain doing it dynamically a little bit more I am confused.

What I am wanting is to be able to call a report, and be able to bring up the info with the database, but not have to have the database in the same place.

I mean if i decide to move the database, then I still want the reports to work!??

Thanks
