I have a windows 2000 server running a ftp site and someone hacked into it and put some files in the ftp directory that it won't let me delete. It says:
"Cannot delet "filename" Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name."
I tried deleting them from the cmd prompt as well and it won't work that way either.
Any help on how I can remove these files?

Thanks,

Matt

Have you checked the file permissions? Tried taking ownership of the file? You may have to boot to a floppy with NTFSDOS to delete them.

I think you can delete every file which is on your own disk.
First look permissions, attributes or log on with safe mode.

Thanks for all the replies, I got two of the directories deleted by using the rd command in dos, but the other two directories named "." and ".." I can't delete. It says the file is in use and I know its not. Yes the administrator owns the files and I am logged on as the administrator.

Hey bud,

"." and ".." are system 'folders' that are in every directory. They are actually links - "." is a link to the directory itself and ".." is a link to the directory above itself.

e.g. If you were in C:\dos and typed "cd .." you would find yourself in the C:
ahh... the good ole dos days :)

They are nothing to worry about and I would be very surpised if you managed to get rid of them.

Hope this helps
