I have a 2000 server with 2 nics:
1 connected to my adsl modem (IP obtained by my provider dhcp, always the same)
1 connected to my local network (static IP 192.168.0.1)

I have 3 connections defined:
1 for my adsl modem nic
1 for the lan nic
1 for PPPOE internet connection

I have installed no active directory, no dns, no dhcp on the server.

My network has 6 machines with 98/95 clients, static IP 192.168.0.X, DNS not active, gateway 192.168.0.1, no WINS.
When i ping my 2000 server 'server' from the clients, i get to ping 192.168.0.1 .

When I ping from my server itself 'ping server' i get in return the internet IP but I would like to have the local IP (192.168.0.1) pinged.
It makes my server unreachable for the clients (they see it but can't access it) and the browsing of the network with the server it infinitely slow...
It also makes the Norton antivirus console to detect the internet IP as the ip of the server, so it cannot interact with the clients.
Any help?

Thank you

Chane your bindings:
Properties of My Network places
In the menu bar, choose advanced, advanced settings. Put your Local Network card on top

Hope this helps,

You need to use NAT (RRAS) or ICS on that server for the machines on your LAN to access the internet. 192.168.0.1 needs to be defined on the client machines as the default gateway. Since you have 2 NICS in the server, there is no way to route requests, since routing is disabled by default.

Your browsing is slow because you are depending on broadcasting clients. Configure an LMHOSTS file and copy it to each machine or install WINS on your server.
