Okay, I know nothing about it. But, we purchased a software product that uses Progress and I have full access to see what I can do with it in order to avoid Support charges.

I don't want to break anything, but I would like to create some queries and if I can develop some views, I'd like to know where and how I can do this.

I am proficient in SQL Server 2000, Enterprise Manager, Query Analyser, and have noticed similar tools in Progress but I don't know how to get to our data ON the progress server.

I do have an ODBC connection from my workstation to the data, but I'd like to create some of my own views, and well if anyone can help me get started, I would appreciate it very much.

thanks

Hi,

There is plenty of info on the progress support site. What is the software product?

Do you know how I can connect Crystal Reports XI to a Progress database (v91)? (I am a new user and am completely in the dark!) The software program I am using is called Advantzware.

You should probably start a new thread under Crystal Reports. If you can connect to your Advantzware data via ODBC then you can write a Crystal Report.

I may be wrong, but I have never come across Views within Progress.

We use Progress at my Compnay and it is difficult to work with. When running reporting off of the Prod DB, we had all sorts of issues with speed. Not sure what your needs are exactly, but think about creating a Data warehouse and doing all of your work off that DB. We have found huge success with this set up,and since our DW is SQL, we have lots of flexibility.

Hi,

In 9.1 , you can create views but not like in SQL Server. I Would agree that from admin not management point of view SQL server is easier to administrate from creating users / views etc.

When reporting off a progress database to maximise speed you need to ensure that all the index fields are linked in the query.

Progress was developed from a different point of view than SQL server. Not saying it is better or worse...
