I created a desktop icon for one of my programs but when I put it on the desktop, the background color is transparent. When I view the icon in Windows Paintshop, the background is visible! What am I missing? There's always a better way...

might not be much help, but check out what mThomas has to say at thread446-378125

sounds similar to my problem, except the complete opposite!!

good luck :)

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the top left pixel of an icon sets which colour will appear as transparent on the desktop. So if you try changing it, the the transparency effect should stop.

Did you use PSP to create the icon?

How did you save the image?

Did you create the image in .bmp format?

Did you change the extension to .ico after creating the image.

mThomas..

Yes, I created the image in PSP7 and saved as .bmp. Then I used a third party software to convert the .bmp file to a .ico file.

Thanks for your input!

Try just changing the extension to .ico using Windows Explorer. You shouldn't need a third party software to create the .ico. .ico is another form of the .bmp format and just changing the extension should work.

I'll give it a try and let you know!

mThomas...

It worked! Thanks for the tip. I don't know why it works but it does!

Thanks again! There's always a better way...
