I have Winxp pro, i have a 200g hd, its partitioned into 4 parts. on one of my partitions i have 80g but only 20 is available. Everythime i format, the results are the same i have 60g of harddrive that just wont erease. Its not the 127G limit, i know that much, its just that i have tried to recover that 60g before but now its all messt up. Anyone have any solution other then to Format the whole dirve?

What status do you see in diskmgmt.msc for the partition in question?

What do you mean that 60Gb 'won't erase' - the format command completes normally, but there's still 60Gb worth of data?????

What I mean is that before I had 60g of data, and error happned that all my data dissapeared, i tried to recover but was unsuccessfull. I dont care about the data becasue i have backups on DVDs. but yes the partitions is 80g but i only have acces to 20, even after formating. im pretty sure i can clean out all my hard drive my formatting it, the thing is i want to avoid that, that would be my last resort.

So, when the format command is run on that partition, it completes normally without any errors?

What does disk managment show for that partition?

when i run format it does itwith noerrors, the stats are these:its a basic partition, its healthy, capacity is 80g butonly 20g are available. when I view my hard drive i only see 2 files, system volumes information and recycler, they only take 85 bytes. SOim suretheres 60gb of info somewhere that i cant see or delete. help.

In diskmgmt.msc, are the 4 partitions showing, with their full sizes? There's not an unpartitioned bit that's 60GB big? (60GB is also suspiciously close to what would be missing with the 128GB barrier, as a 200GB drive (drive manufacturer's definition) is actually c. 190GB in Windows)
