Hi everyone. New to here.
Windstream is my ISP. My connection speed has been 3 megs down for the last yr or two. About a month ago I noticed that Windstream had 6 megs down avail in this area. So I called to inqure about it. They told me it was avail but I needed a different modem, because my Speedstream 4200, prev supplied by them to me, was incompatable with this higher speed. So they promised to send me a new modem free of charge.
Several days later the modem arrives...it's another Speedstream 4200 lol. So I'm thinking, perhaps they did a firmware upgrade to this modem or something. So anyway, I install this modem and get connected to the web. The first thing I do is do some speed tests. I'm getting the exact same speed I was getting before.
So I call up Windstream and they verify that the techs did all of the necessary changeovers at the CO, and that I should be getting the faster speed. I can throw a rock and literally hit the CO, that's how close I am. So I know this is not a distance problem.
I decide to call Windstream back. This time they were going to let me speak to a tech. That went nowhere. This tech had such broken English that I was barely able to understand him most of the time. The first thing he asks, do I have cookies enabled? I was thinking, what does cookies have to do with anything, lol. So I pretty much cut that converstion short.
So I called again, hoping that I would at least get a tech that I could understand. Once again I get a tech with broken English. It's been 3 or 4 weeks and I still don't have this resolved. Is there some settings in my modem's online setup that I need to change or something, in order to enable the faster speed? Also I have nothing between the 4200 and the PC. It's just a basic setup, no external routers, etc. And one more thing, if the 4200 is incompatable with the higher speed, why did they send me another 4200?
