I have a home network consisting of three pc's. 2 are running win 2000 and the other is XP. I can access the documents on the XP machine w/ only one of the machines running 2000. The problem pc can access docs. on the 2000 pc and not the XP pc. The other 2000 pc can access both the 2000 and XP pc. The problem 2000 pc doesn't ask for a log in and password for the xp pc. How can i get the log in screen back in windows 2000? The XP pc can access both the 2000 pc's. PLZ HELP!!!!

Create an account on the XP that has the same username and password as the problem machine.

i just tried that and still nothing. I need to know how to get rid of saved passwords in win 2000. I remember that i checked the box saying "save this password" the first time i tried to log on and basically screwed myself. PLEASE HELP IM GOING INSANE W THIS ONE!!!!

Thank You

Saved passwords are located under Users and Passwords in the control panel. You want to enable users have to enter a password to log on to this computer.

ok i just unchecked autocomplete in win 2000 and this damn machine wont ask for a password to log onto the winXP pc. what can i do?

Hmmm. Might be cached on the XP box. Reboot both of them, have you tried that?

many, many times, still nothing. well i take that back. I can access "shared documents" on the xp pc but it wont let me view "my documents", it says "access denied". And i thought i had it figured out by putting all documents in the "shared folder" but it still says "access denied" when i try to open the new folder within that folder. What would cause the workgroup login screen to disapeer?

well
if you're logged in on your Windows 2000 box as a user that has the same username and password on that XP box, it's going to take that user/pass automatically.

Get the XP box's IP addres, and go to Start > Run

And type:

//X.X.X.X/c$

X.X.X.X being the XP box's IP address (may be something like 192.168.x.x if you have a small LAN with a router)

See if it asks you for a user and pass there.

"I can access "shared documents" on the xp pc but it wont let me view "my documents", it says "access denied"."
This is correct behavior for XP with Simple File Sharing enabled. See
"And i thought i had it figured out by putting all documents in the "shared folder" but it still says "access denied" when i try to open the new folder within that folder"
This is still correct behavior, because even though you have moved (or copied) the files, you have not changed the permissions and owner.

"What would cause the workgroup login screen to disapeer"
This would be because your accounts match correctly on both machines.

Good point.

Right click on your C drive and go to sharing and enable sharing without the wizard.
