hello guy,

I use IIS 5.0 on W2K, and a DLL for my web site.
Even if I stop IIS using "iisreset /stop", I cannot delete the DLL file.
When I try to delete the file it gives the following error:
"Cannot delete XXX.DLL. Access is denied. The source file my be in use"

I can delete the file only if reset the computer.

could anyone tell me how can I resolve this problem?

Hei I had a similar prolem with a file called w3who.dll.
What I did was: right-click the file->proerties->security->
owner there I deleted all owners.
After I could delete the file from explorer.

You are best installing your DLL into a Component Services package before you use it on your site. This will automatically register the component.

When you need to update the DLL, open Component Services, locate the package the DLL is contained within and click "Shut Down". This will release the DLL and you should be able to copy over it (make sure the component is binary compatible).

If you need to delete it, simply delete the DLL from the package, this will unregister the DLL and release it.

Hope this helps!

James
