I tried to install another HDD (Wester Digital) on my PackardBell iDesign desktop.
I had problems to make the computer recognize the HDD.
After many attempt in the bios Setup menus I cannot anymore access the F2 Setup menu.

After initializing the desktop I have a bios message:

Sec Master drive - ATAPI incompatible

Thanks for any advice

After initializing the desktop I have a bios message - does this mean you're in Windows? (what version?). Sounds like you need a specific driver for your new hard drive (How/where is it connected - mobo IDE connector, controller card? Its is IDE? Are you sure its jumpered correctly)

I had on of these computers and in order for the hdd to be recognized, I had to install an "overlay" program so that the older motherboard could recognize it.
e-z bios, or a similar disk management program will probably fix the problem.
Check the website for the manufacturer of your new hard drive for a disk manager program. They are small and easy to download and install.
If that doesn't work, purchase a pci "ide controller card" which will have its own bios. Consider upgrading to a newer system, motherboards, cpu's and memory are really reasonable now a days! Good Luck!
