I have a Windows 2000 Server on a domain that I can ping from and hit anything in the domain. The problem is that when I'm on another pc or server(no matter what it is) I cannot ping or access anything on my Windows 2000 Server. I've tried changing ports on my switch, patch cables, etc. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!!!!

Metty,

Is it possible that you have Input Filters blocking incoming ICMP packets?

Just a though,

Check the server end. It could be your ipsec security policy. Secure Server Required Enabled will let you pings things but not get out to them. A good IT joke on a 2000 local machine. Last place a lot of people would look.

All of the above posts could be the problem. I would recommend that you either install network monitor and see what is really happening or use a free program (Ethereal) to identify what is happening to your ICMPs. (I'm NOT trying to sell it it's GNU anyway...)

Oh, One more item: check your Subnet mask! I had miss typed mine on a server, and for days, we had some mysterious problems with it until I changed it back (Class B to a C... oops)

Yes, check the subnet mask on your server and workstation and if they are in different subnets, check the gateways.

Cheers
