I am trying to sync my palm pilot using my IR port on my laptop..... I cannot find the Infrared Monitor which I need so that I can find out which COM port it has...... I have the wireless link option, but I need the IR Monitor.... Any suggestions?

I had this same problem with my laptop and Windows 2000, and thought I was going to need 3rd party software to make it work. However it turned out to be easy.

First, it is a good idea to make sure that Hotsync is working through the serial port and cradle. If so, try the following:

Open your Control Panel->Wireless Link applet. On the Image Transfer tab, uncheck the 'Use wireless link to transfer images...' checkbox, (Seems to be checked by default).

Now right click the Hotsync icon in the system tray and check Infrared. Make sure Local Serial is unchecked.

Set up your Palm Pilot for Infrared transfer and give it a try. It worked for me.

Good luck!
