I am thinking of using VoIP on my meridian pbx, for laptop users, i am having trouble trying to decipher what i acctually need. what soft phones are there, what are the Meridian Phone VoIP Options. Also once VoIP is installed, in theory can you run these over a VPN on a wireless Branch of the LAN

Yes, you are correct, about handeling your VoIP calls over a VPN connection.
You have to keep the QoS in mind though.
I wouldn't use the VoIP solution over a VPN or DSL connection if there's no dicect connection or if your provider cannot guarrantee you the QoS. With Wireless it is theoretically possible, but I've not seen this yet

Nortel has the i2050 softphone for this, but there are more brands out there.

The M1 release must be at least 25.15 to use VoIP, but the versions afterwards can handle more features than this version.

Thanks for the heads up, ill keep you posted on my progress.
