I am responsible for an ACCESS data base that has recently been migrated to an SQL server set up. Access to the data base is via the ACCESS front end on a shared drive on a server. Two tables, one field each, have been added to the data base since the migration. I cannot add data, records, to either of the new tables. They come up on my PC greyed out. The INSERT menue is all grey. There is no blank record at the bottom for input of the next record. There are no records. The SQL guys say it is an ACCESS issue.

Help Please,

Thanks,

Dan

Hi,
I have often had this problem with links to an Oracle database. To solve this, I deleted the link and then re-connected to it. Don't worry about your existing queries, forms, etc., that use the table(s) in question. Deleting the links and re-adding them will NOT affect any other objects in your Access database. HTH, [pc2]

The problem could also be that there is no primary key. I know I've had problems with that before in linked SQL tables.

Randysmid,
Thanks so much, the relink worked. Now my next challenge is how to delete a record in a linked table that returns the message, "This record set is not updatable." I am supposed to have write access to these tables.

I have gotten that Recordset not updateable error before when my recordset is created from a query that is too "complicated" (at least Access thinks so) to update it. Hope that helps.

Hi,
Peggy is correct. Whenever you have a query that is referencing two or more tables, Access will not let you update. (I think it has something to do with cascading deletes.) Simplify your query so that it only includes fields from the table to be maintained. HTH, [pc2]

Thanks, but there is no query involved here. In both cases, two tables, one field each. They only supply input for list boxes. I need to update the options as they appear in the table so that the list, drop down boxes, on an input panel can offer appropriate options. I hope this constitutes a better question. I have tried deleting the links and then relinking the table, but to no avail. I can sort, but not edit or add records.

Thanks,

Dan

I still think the problem may be the lack of a primary key.
