I know i am connected online because i get response to my pings and my ABC News scrolling news bar works but can not load web pages or access outlook express. I have windows98, DSL and my other computers are connected ok. Their network settings are to automatically detecting the connection. Any help/advice is appreciated.

You may need to delete some temporary internet files. Does the PC have IE6? If so, go to Tools>Internet Options and select Delete Files. Also could be TCP/IP corrupted. If so, make sure you have a reliable W98 Install Disk before removing and re-installing.

Run the IE repair tool.

If that does not help, then you may have to reinstall IE.

Tried the above suggestions. Still unable to access AOL Instant Messenger, Outlook Express, and Internet Explorer. However, I am getting current news on the scrolling news bar that is next to my address bar on Explorer. I am suspecting that there is some buried security option i am not finding that will let me connect. Or possible my network settings? I have Win98. My network setting are automatically detected. Any suggestions?

The error i get is the usual "Unable to access this page". I just fugured out that the ABC News thing is not current. However, I am getting responses to my pings in DOS. In Outlook Express i get the message, unable to access host.warwick.net (thats my ISP). I know I have my email setup correctly as I have 2 other computers and the settings are always the same.

Thanks for helping\

Are you running McAfee virus? I had an issues similar to this, found help on the Internet that said to uninstall McAfee and reinstall. It cleared up my problem.

Had actually been using Norton System Works. Thought that might be the problem, uninstalled it and still unable to get online. Thanks though :) Also uninstalled my popup blocker and firewall. Still not working. Grrrrr.

Clear out your Cookies and History and Temporary Internet Files again.
Have you checked for spyware with SpyBot S&D and AdAware ?
