OK, I hate to ask this because I know it's ignorant, but I purchased a Cisco 2501 over Ebay, and I'm ready to work with it. I've got Win2k, and I'm going to Hyperterminal with router connected (and turned on, of course), and I get a window asking me to make an internet connection. I don't want that, I only want the terminal emulation to begin working with the router. It's simple for all of you, so someone PLEASE HELP!!

Hello there, Just give the connection a name once you do that you will be prompted to enter the details for dialing out.. at the bottom of the window you will see Connect using... from the drop menu just use com1 or com3 depending on which one your calbe is attached.

Once you do that you will be prompted to enter the bit per second rate just fill it in like:
bits per second 9600
data bits 8
Parity none
Stop bits 1
Flow control None

Cheers and good luck

Did you choose to use the available serial ports to connect to the router? (like COM1, COM2, COM3...whatever)

As an alternative, I always use Tera Term Pro.

This means that this is the first time setting up hyperterm. Just give it an area code and make up the rest for the rest and you will be able to open hyperterm.
