Hyperlinks in Word 2000 1

Sometimes my hyperlinks turn in to hyperlinks automatically and sometimes I have to manually turn them into hyperlinks.
Have made sure underline links is on 'always'in IE advanced, but still it doesn't always work.

Here's what I make sure I do. After I type a hyperlink, I always hit the spacebar. After that, I can backspace to put a period or whatever.

Make sure Tools-Autocorrect, Autoformat as you type has hyperlinks turned on--which I'm sure it does. But if you don't put that space, it sometimes doesn't work. Like if I insert the text for a hyperlink and stop typing at the end of the hyperlink without the space, it doesn't make a hyperlink.
