Could someone explain how to define hyperlinks for files in groupwise?

Thanks very much!

Expand on this a bit more, not sure what it is your trying to do here.

If you want to click on a link that takes you to a document with in an email, thats pretty much an attachment. If you want to see docs in the GroupWise client, thats document managment (create a library and enable intergrations).

I am trying to add a link in my e-mail message, so that recipients could click on the link and access the file stored in the network. I prefer this over sending the file as an attachment, since the file is pretty huge to attach in an e-mail.

Appreciate the help.

I see what your trying to do now.

Just played with this in GroupWise 6 and found how you can get it to work. If the file is in a location the recipient has a mapped drive to, just place a "//" infront of the path (//f:\directory\filename) The recipient would get a link and would go stright to the file if specified, or go stright to the directory if no file is specified.

I found that you can not use UNC mapping using either the servername\volumename\path or using treename\volumecontext\path, it just didn't work.

Another way you can do this is to store the file on a web server, then you can also use a hyperlink in the mail message to direct the recipient to the file you want them to have. This way would allow people out side of your network that do not have a mapped drive to your server to still get the file.

You can also do it the old fashion way, "Here is the path, here is the file name, go get it" :)

Thanks very much! Let me try this. I will give you an update tomorrow with the results.

Appreciate the efforts you have put in.

Unfortunately, I am using Groupwise 5.5. It does not work in 5.5. Could you think of a solution to do the same in 5.5?

Appreciate the help!

Make sure your client is at the latest service pack level.

For this to work, you need to have a mail package that supports web links. If you can't enter in a normal web link, then this work around will not work. I think the latest SP for 5.5 will give you the intergration you need, but not sure.

May be time to upgrade since 5.5 is no longer supported by Novell anymore, and 6.5 rocks.

i work in an office where there are 6 computers, all using WinXP and groupwise 6.5

The problem is.. only 2 of the PCS will open a hyperlink from within an email. I cant seem to find any settings within Groupwise that would allow/prevent this action, nor can i think of any reason IE would not open.

I thought at one stage that perhaps you would need to view the email in HTML as opposed to plain text but this hasnt helped solve the problam at all. The 2 PC's that work, show the hyperlink in blue (as would be expected) the reamining 4 do not, however on ALL PC's the cursor does change to a hand icon as it normally would when hovering over a hyperlink.

I am at a loss as to why this is happening and have tried reinstalling on one PC but still - the same problem.

My IT dept at work has no idea either.

Any help? anyone?

Check for this on the PC's and compare the working systems to the non-working systems: Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs - then scroll down until you find GroupWise and the next line you should find "GroupWise Internet Browser Mail Integration." If this is not installed you lose your HTML support. To get it back try removing the GW Client and reinstall.
