I am using VFP to drag data from a remote site to do a back up each night.

I'm going to move the remote site from http to https, so the internet users can be a bit more secure. I'm wondering how much in the way of mods I might need to do to the back-up routine to make it work with a https rather than http.

Anyone used https with the West Wind IPStuff s/w?

Check the message boards at for a definitive answer. But last I looked, West Wind's tools were nothing but a wrapper around WinINET, which did not natively support https.

Might have a bit of work to do then?

While I have not worked with the West Wind tools, I have worked some with the Chilkat HTTP tools (Google for them) and found that they do a pretty good job.

They have good VFP examples and have been supportive to my questions when needed.

However the biggest challenges I ran into was with the 'other side' of the transmission. Their doing things 'their own way' caused a number of challenges.

Good Luck,

Have you considered rsync, using a Windows wrapper

In linux, all you need is a single line of code to sync 2 servers running in a CRONTAB, (equivalent of a Windows Scheduled Task).

I am guessing you could sync a linux server, if that's what you have, with a Windows PC or a Windows server with a Windows PC.

Hi JRB and Chris

Actually the West Wind tools seem to do the job pretty well - running the https bit, that is, just had to change the address and (once the web server was running https:) it just worked.

Happy days

A user on TT-Uk pointed me in the right direction for getting and setting up the SSL cert etc.
