I have to use a proxy server and port number with my ISP. For some reason I can not access any secured sites such as my bank, or any site that starts with https: What could be the fix here?

you'll probably need to install any patches for your internet explorer browser to give you 128 bit encryption.
You'd be better off downloading IE6 if you haven't already.

to check your browser version and cipher strength, open internet explorer, click on help and click about. everything you need is in there. ~ The day I think I know it all, i'm changing careers ~

bobby,
2 things:

1) Please get in the habit of checking threads you've started and reply to them. You can do so by clicking the "My Threads" link in the upper left after you log into Tek-Tips. You'll see that you've gotten replies to a thread you started in January, but have yet to respond.

2) We need more info about your current problem:

[tab]- type of connection (DSL, Cable, Dial-Up)
[tab]- whether you use a router
[tab]- version of browser (i.e. Internet Explorer 5.5)
[tab]- version of Windows
[tab]- whether you have any firewalls running
[tab]- what the port number is that you're forced to use

I use a DSL modem. My ISP reqires that my browser use a proxy so I can get a fast connection. My current cypher strength is 128 bit and I can browse the internet just fine, but when I try to go to a secured site it say's page note found.

Thanks everyone,
I figured it out. For future reference: In the proxy setting box, uncheck use proxy and port for secured connection. It works fine no!
