httpd service stops immediately after it starts.

I checked the error log and is says that the address is aleready in use (BY WHAT??).

I checked the httpd.conf using apachectl and its syntax is "ok".

What else am I missing here.

Thanks

Hi mate,

Do you have another server running on port 80? IIS maybe??

Does your ISP allow you to use port 80? If not then this is the problem and to run a server you will need to use some kind of port redirection before the client gets to your server. You could run the server on 8080 for example.

Hope this helps Wullie

Hey Wullie.

This is my own server. I have full root access.

As far as another webserver running (WHY?) Apache is the only way.

:)

Let me know if I can Maybe send you a copy of my httpd.conf so you can take a look.

I am also having a serious issue with not being able to use SSI in my pages.

I have looked everywhere and no matter what happens I can't get the darn thing to work.

Let me know.

Hi mate,

Download the program from the following page. Then, make sure that no other programs are running and then run this app.

This will check and tell you what ports are available and what ones are blocked.

After you try this, post the results here and I can help more..

Hope this helps Wullie

Wullie...

Thanks....This is a Linux Box and I cannot install this software. I have rebuilt the server in the course of this conversation. I'll let you klnow it that helped.
