I want to download the apache server, but there is an option to choose ftp or http. What is the effective difference of the two regarding dowloads? In other words, which should I choose?

Please forgive if this question is too basic :(

There is no difference between the two downloads as Apache has nothing whatsoever to so with FTP -- the difference is merely the protocol you're going to use to download the file onto your computer.

There are basically 2 reasons for preferring the one over the other:

Th First is when the location you are downloading to has been firewalled and standard port 21 (for ftp) has been locked. In that case you would need to use the http download method.

In general I would use the ftp download method whenever I would be downloading large files over slower connections because the FTP protocol has better support for resuming broken downloads. However there exist a number of downloadmanagers for http downloads that provide this download just as well.

All in all, downloading over HTTP or FTP has nothing to do with Apache whatsoever. This question was better placed in a general 'How do I use the Internet' forum.
