Hi All,

I need to get a Microsoft IIS server up and running to flash my IP phones and am having trouble getting it to work. My network guy won't let TFTP run because of a security risk he is concerned with about TFTP. Is there any better documentation on getting this done or can someone please give me some step by step. I'm not too IIS savvy.

Thanks,

I hope they are 9600 series phones, they use HTTP, if they are 4600 series phones, and have older firmware on them currently, they require TFTP to update them. Once they are updated to a certain point, they are capable of using HTTP.

you will need to use TFTP tp update 4600 series phones, they use DHCP Option 176 to give them this information, once you have I belive R2.6 or greater, you can then use an HTTP server... however, SOP (Standard Operating Proceedure) to support 4600 IP phones is to always use TFTP

I believe the 46xx phones prior to release 2_8 require TFTP.

Once you upgrade the firmware to 2_8 or 2_9 they will then use HTTP for firmware.

I apologize I know this doesn't help with your IIS question but you may not be ready for that anyway.

You could get a little router (not on the network), plug a TFTP server and a couple phones in and statiically adress the phones to get the TFTP updates. This would take forever but at least you get the phones beyond the TFTP requirement issue.

As far as IIS is fairly easy. install the windows component. Windows does it for you for the most part. Then you build a directory to put your firmware in. Configure the option 176 to use the HTTP directory and you're all set.

Here is what my scope looks like:
"MCIPADD=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz,HTTPDIR=/tftproot/"

x = CLAN
y = LSP/ESS/Additional CLANS
z = Web Server

tftproot is the folder in my IIS web root directory where I put the firmware.

The default location on the web server would be something like:

"C:\Inetpub\
so I would put my firmware in

"C:\Inetpub\
