Hello All
I need to know the difference between http:\\ and https:\\.
Also I am planning to buy w2k server and host my web site. Does IIS offer this secure SSL encryption. Basically after hosting my site I need users to access it using https and not thru http. How do I do it within IIS .Being a beginner I need some information.

Regards
MP

It's actually very easy.

"I need to know the difference between http:\\ and https:\\."

Http:// is just a usual connection while https:// is a secure connection where nothing is cached.. data is encrypted.

"Does IIS offer this secure SSL encryption"

Yes it does.. i just set a secure server up a month ago.

"How do I do it within IIS "

Go here.. it's for NT's IIS but it's pretty much the same as Windoz 2k.

Good luck.. u'll find it to be very easy.

Ick, do you know if it is possible to have multiple virtual servers using separate https sites on one machine?

WebMask your Server Article

Any information a cracker can obtain about your system is too much information. An often overlooked security issue is the exposure of a Web server’s identity via its HTTP header. Broadcasting this data makes it easier for a potential intruder to complete their first hacking task -- identifying your operating system and Web server -- so don't let them know what you are running.
