I'm using NT4 SP6 and MS Word 97 SR2 (quite!). When I download a file type of doc off our server which contains HTML it should display as an HTML table but it actually displays the HTML source (i.e. complete with tags).

This doesn't happen at another site where they are using SR1. And it doesn't happen if I take the same file and open it in Office XP either. I can't upgrade my software or OS on my works machine though.

Has anyone got any ideas why this is displaying as HTML rather than a nice table? Thanks.

I don't know if this was available for your versions, but go to view/ and choose a different layout. See if that is the problem. Also go to file and look for print preview, or view in web browser. Also, go to your tools, options, and check to find any specifications for viewing html. 97 was good for something and that is it't help. type view web page in html, and see the topics you find.

Thanks for the advice. I've checked into this a little more and what's odd is that the View HTML source option in the View menu is not showing at all for me. The only way I can view this document as intended (i.e. as an HTML table) is to to go to Options, click "Confirm conversion at Open" and then select HTML when I open the document. This can't be right! Any ideas? Thanks.

I would save as html and then do an open with wordpad. I would think that that would work. From there, if you still want to be in word, it might work to copy and paste. I havent tested this, so it is just a theory, shot in the dark, attempt at greatness.
