We have a Proliant 6500 with an HSG80 Storage Array running NT 4.0 Sp6a . We sometimes get the following warning reported in the System Log:

Event ID: 33
Source: hszdisk

Data was recovered using error correction code on device \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1

The warning is not reported for any other partition. Has anyone experience of a similar problem?

I have been getting the same error. It just started showing up when our RA8000's were upgraded by Compaq. Not sure the solution yet..

Funny you should say that. I don't recall that we had the error before Compaq came in and upgraded the array. However, we have another system which was also upgraded by Compaq and it doesn't report the error. At the most we only seem to get one message a day (often none), but it always seems to be round about the same sort of time (+ or - a few minutes).

What exactly was upgraded? ACS? New version or just a patch?
Drivers? SecurePath? Platform kit?
A theory is that you've had the problem all along, but now the software reports the errors.

Hello !

I have exactly this problem on my server, it's a Proliant 580DL with NT 4.0 SP6a linked with an EMA12000, can you tell me what kind of upgrade you did to resolve this problem ?

Regards

David

We haven't solved it yet. At the very most we were seeing it once or twice a week. Our view was that it probably was happening before the upgrade and not being reported. Should the frequency of the warning increase then we will persue it more actively.

Did anyone figure this one out? I am having a proliant server give me the same messages. Wondering if the drive is about to go bad.

This is the action to take for this error:

The Registry Entries for HSZDISK need to be modified to include a double null termination for the DependOnGroup key.

This is my actual error:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None
Event ID: 33
Date: 5/20/2003
Time: 14:50:00 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ServerName
Description:
Data was recovered using error correction code on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0.

This is my system drive on an Adaptec SCSI card. This might have started when I install the ASPI drivers for win2k.

On this the only thing I can offer is to run the diagnostics and check the hard drives.

It would appear that the drive/s were automatically recovered from a failure state. What does the IML say?

The HSZDISK is a known issue and stright forward enough. This is different.
