I am trying to do a cold-install of HP-UX 11.0 on a 9000 server but the server will not boot off the CDROM. When I select "bo alt" the server reads the CD for a short moment and then returns an error saying:

Cannot find ENTRY_TEST
Failed to initialize
ENTRY_INIT
Status = -4

If I boot the server off the hard drive, I have no problems at all. Once booted, I can mount the CDROM and read off it normally so I don't think the CDROM has gone bad.

Any suggestions ?? Thanks !!

What type of CD-ROM are you using? Is it an HP CD-ROM or is it some other SCSI CDROM? There are very few non-HP CD drives that will actually allow an HP machine to boot.

If it is an HP drive then I'd go ahead an see about getting new media.

I sm having a very similar problem with my HP 9000 D250 that I just inherited.

When trying to boot from the CD with BO P2 I get this error:

Cannot find ENTRY_TEST
Failed to initialize
ENTRY_INIT
Status = -4

Same as yours!

Have you been able to find the solution to your problem?

is the alt boot path correctly set?

Mike

It's like this; even samurai have teddy bears, and even teddy bears get drunk.

Finally the problem was just simply a bad cd-rom. I replaced it and the install went smooth as silk!

Thanks.
